Yosemite Waterfalls

The Yosemite National Park is synonymous to Waterfalls. Tourists are actually drawn to Yosemite to see its collection of breathtaking waterfalls. Of course, the scenic beauty of the Yosemite National Park is highlighted by its cliffs, and lush greens. But even if you take out all of these, Yosemite will still exist in its full grandeur because of its splendid waterfalls.

Yosemite Waterfalls wouldn’t be complete without the Yosemite Falls. It is the highest one measured in the country and is also the fifth tallest in the world. The Yosemite Falls is divided into two parts, the Upper Yosemite Fall and the Lower Yosemite Fall. The base from the lower part to the top of the upper one, comprise its total drop of 2425 feet. The Upper Fall has a 1430-foot drop which earned it a spot in the twenty highest in the world. The Lower Fall has a 320-foot plunge and has an adjacent popular viewing area for tourists.

Another of the Yosemite Waterfalls is the Ribbon Fall. It majestically stands 1,612 feet and flows from a cliff beside the El Capitan. This is considered as the highest single-drop waterfall in all of North America. It is fed by rainwater, as well as melted snow, which explains why it is dry for most of the year.

The Bridalveil Fall is another famous Yosemite Waterfalls. This 620-foot falls flows all year, although its volume decreases in the later part of the summer season. It sprays mist that resembles a bridal veil, hence the moniker. This easily-accessible falls makes it a popular photograph subject.

A part of the Yosemite Waterfalls collection is the Vernal Fall which has a height of 370 feet. Even if this is not as accessible as the Bridalveil Fall and the Yosemite Falls, this is still popular due to the fact that water rushes all-year-round. The misty-spray of the falling water drenches the nearby areas.

The Nevada Fall is one of the rather isolated Yosemite waterfalls. A deep pool is on top of this 594-feet waterfall. It has gained the reputation for taking guests over the falls with its strong currents. Despite the fence and the posted warnings, most visitors still can’t resist taking a dip in the pool.

The Illilouette Fall is the not-so-famous from among the major Yosemite waterfalls mainly. This is mainly because it cannot be seen from any road. Those who want to see this fall have to do it from a far area. The Panorama Trail descending down from Glacier Point provides the greatest view.

All the Yosemite waterfalls, whether major or the less popular ones, are what beckon most tourists. Each one is uniquely captivating, proudly embracing varied characteristics that never fail to astound.

Rota, Spain

Do you know of a nautical post that has been providing great assistance to other countries? One can be spotted among the elite circle of the European Union (EU). With roughly about 27, 000 inhabitants, Rota, Spain is a town in the province of Cadiz that belongs to the region of Andulasia. Surrounded by Jerez, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Chipiona, the place is situated on the Atlantic Coast which is in the middle of Gibraltar and Portugal.

According to the history of Rota, Spain, the evidences found by some archaeologists suggested that the place has already been occupied even in the Bronze Age. Similar to the province of Malaga, it is believed that the Phoenicians were the persons who made the initial discovery. It is also said that the town been assumed to be the Astaroth of the Tartesians. Later on, the Romans were in possession who dubbed the place as “Speculum Rotae.”

When the Moors, medieval Muslims from the Iberian Peninsula, stepped into the territories of the country, Rota, Spain was called “Rabita Rutta”, where the current name has been taken from. Starting in 1248 and the succeeding years, the Moors were forced out of the town in the Reconquest Period. There was even an Inquisition created wherein the locals were totally decided to annihilate the non- Christians.

In 1297, Rota, Spain was honored by Sancho IV “The Brave” of Castile to a certain Alonso Perez de Guzman, founder of the dukes of Medina Sidonia. The place was handed down by Sancho IV as a reward when de Guzman was able to defend the small municipality of Tarifa. Since the town already entered the epoch where building fortresses were necessary, the construction of the Castillo de la Luna began. Nestled at the front of the Mediterranean Sea, the castle was built as a coastal protection.

Today, Rota, Spain obtains revenues from its tourism industry. You can spot a lot of mushrooming resorts that have been accommodating visitors coming from all over the continent of Europe. When it is not the summer season, the fishing industry is the chief commercial activity. The town is also home to the Naval Station where the United States’ fleet units and air mobilities have been benefiting much.

Queen Isabella of Spain

Did you know that if not for Queen Isabella of Spain, Christopher Columbus would have not been able to set sail into the New World? Yes, you heard it right. It was the political vision of a devoted mother, devout Christian and dedicated wife that led a single person to be known over the entire globe until this very juncture. It was her fascination of the Native Americans where she agreed to finance the expedition of a man whose real identity still remains to be debatable.

Any male individual would not desire for Queen Isabella of Spain as a partner in life. Aside from the very fact that at a tender age of three, together with her younger brother, Alfonso, they were foreseen as rightful heirs to the throne that their father, John II, would soon relinquish. She naturally had blue eyes that perfectly matched with her chestnut hair. When she turned eighteen, she was captivated with jewelries and garbed on gowns. At that instance, even if she was not yet wearing the crown, she was living what a genuine aristocrat was.

For more than three decades, Queen Isabella of Spain was fighting a civil war in order to secure her kingdom. When she accepted the hand of Ferdinand II of Aragon in marriage, it was the advent of a thirty- five year mutual control of a united nation under the administration of Catholic Monarchs. It was the death of Henry IV in December of 1474 that the couple then assumed the highest position in the country.

Queen Isabella of Spain conceived five children namely Isabel, Charles, Joanna, Maria and Catherine. Of all that she bore, two died even before their mother was deceased. There were a lot of events that brought sorrow into her last few years on earth. Another was the grave illness of one of her daughters, Joanna, who turned out to be mentally unstable. However, she also had her own share of sweet memories such as Charles becoming the Holy Roman Emperor and Catherine wed Henry VIII of England.

Education was highly regarded by Queen Isabella of Spain. Even when she was already thirty- five years old, it did not stop her from learning Latin, which is now, by the way, identified as a dead language. It was all the more evident when she negotiated with scholars to put up schools in the courts of the palace. All throughout her days, she might have been a dreamer but what made her set apart is, her aspirations were realized because she actively initiated.
